RAL Data Centre

Specification

Rutherford Appleton Laboratories (RAL) supports research in areas including materials and structures, light sources, astronomy and particle physics.

The project awarded to TT includes design and build of M&E services to the data centre and office facilities.

This high tech facility will be utilised for the processing of data from the project at CERN – situated astride the Franco-Swiss borders near Geneva.

The TT solution

M&E services to a robust high powered data centre with associated critical power
    and air conditioning services with a density equivalent to 3000 w/m².

Power and delivery of a controlled environment utilising free cooling chillers.

Energy efficient supplies which will ultimately be served by a CHP solution.

Benefits to client

TT’s experienced track record in data centres enabled the client to award
    the contract at early stage.

TT have previously worked with RAL on controlled environments.

TT are working with the client to determine the best solution as the data centre
    is populated with a low load start up.

This is a fast track project and must be available when the CERN experiments
    go on-line in late 2008.
